Widdington is a quiet village set in a beautiful area of Essex. It is a Ideal walk in spring as there will be lots of plants awakening from winter. Walking along the River Cam which eventually flow under the bridge of Sigs in Cambridge and feed the Great Ouse, south of Ely. The woods are good and also there is some splendid houses and a couple of Churches especially the one at Debden.

A circular walk starting from Widdington lovely scenery and passing some really interesting buildings along the way. After parking we went past the pub on the left keeping straight passing a pond on the left and then going up a no through road, past a pond on the left till we reached Widdington house in front of us.
We went left alongside the house, the track passes a house with a unusual post box out the front, we kept on the road which eventually became a enclosed lane.
We Stayed on this ignoring a way marker on the left till we came to a way marker, turning right here we followed the path through the wood we got round the muddy path by walking alongside it in the wood till we came out of the wood.
Then it was straight across the middle of the field and lucky for us it was not a recently ploughed field but well trotten path to a cross track. Here we turned left and we were then walking alongside the river Cam, in some places the banks were quite deep after years of erosion . Following the river we came to a bridge ignoring this and kept going straight and soon the path bent to the left and climbed away from the river between trees until we reached Cornells Lane. Here we decided have our packed lunch on a concrete slab, on the menu today was ham salad sandwiches hot cross buns and tangerines, I like to have a stop and a picnic at the same taking in the quietness and beauty of the countryside.
After the break we turned left then immediately right up a lane, Keeping on this lane and keeping right in front of the entrance to Swayne's Hall. Soon we passed Mole Hall on the right and on a gate on the left was a Peacock sitting on the top, by the time I had got the camera out it had gone, it would have made a good photo. In front of us was a hedged path, this where we turned left and continued along the left hand side of the field , then turned right, here we lucky to see a Kite flying well I believe it was and this time manged to et the camera out to get a few photos, and using the binoculars we were able to get a good view of him. Keeping still on the left hand side of the field and In the following field turning left to follow the field edge round to the right and this soon turned into a track and then a lane.
We walked straight past the first of several thatched cottages until we came to a Finger post on the left where we took the path diagonally left across a field to a cross bridge. were taking.
