Battlesbridge is an exciting mixture of new and old situated almost at the end of the navigable part of the river Crouch. It is still visited by quite large vessels which moor outside the old mill, which is now part of a large antiques and craft industry.
Details of Walk
Date of Walk: 29/01/2012
Distance: 4.11 Miles
Level of Difficulty: A Moderate Walk
Car Park: Antiques Centre SS11 7RE
Refreshments: The Barge or The Tea Shop at the top of the Mill
There is something here for anyone be it a article for the home or an interesting present for a friend. The whole village is made up of antique shops. You leave the village walking alongside the river with views downstream as far as the new town of South Woodham Ferrers. We went wrong as we missed where we should have headed inland so we eventually came to a dead end where a caravan park is, we were not alone as two couples behind us made the same mistake.
They had the same book on walks as us so to save walking back we cut through the caravan park and under the railway line. from here we could have cut through to the Lodge restaurant where Samantha & Leigh had their Wedding reception and we stayed the night, and we have had a occasion for Mum & Dad there. But we went back along the road to get back on the right track. The other couples cut through here as they were only doing part of the walk and we caught up with them and they gave us a tot of slow Gin which they had made. After completing the walk we had a look round the mill and had tea right up the top and the views from here were really great
