Once an important place in the trade of wool, lace-making and formerly extensive antique trade, Coggeshall is now a lovely town with many fine timber-framed buildings and it has held a market every week on Market Hill since 1256, when a charter to do so was granted by Henry III.Its Easter bank holiday Monday and Neil & Nic were coming on a walk with us and then back to ours for dinner, as they could not get over till late we decided to do one close to home. This walk was a short one 3.5 miles long but packed with a lot of history, river walking and ancient town streets.
