Date of Walk: 27/05/2012
Distance: 6.18 Miles
History: St Peters Church, Bradwell Power Station, Bradwell Bay Airfield
Refreshments: The Kings Head
No Photos Taken on Walk
We parked the car outside the school and opposite St Thomas church which has a solid brick tower and the walls made up of sandstone and flint. Also the lockup up is at the end of the church wall. The grill and whipping posts can be seen by the door to the seven foot square building.
The walk begins by taking us on a pilgrimage to St Peters on the wall which was founded in AD654 by St Cedd and was built on the wall of the old Roman fort. From St Peters we turned left and went along the sea wall to the power station which is being decommissioned. Also there is a disused airfield which was used in the second world war, you can still see some buildings and the runway also there is a War Memorial.
We finally got back to the village and treated ourselves to a cold shandy. We got talking to a couple that have a boat at the marina and ended up having a good conversation.
