East Mersea is the less busier end of the island regarding population but for day trippers it gets a lot. To get on the island you have to go over a causeway which for most of the time is okay, I remember years ago on the taxis one of the drivers did not wait for the tide to go down, he got stuck in the middle with the water coming in.
Details of Walk
Date of Walk: 15/07/2007
Distance: 4.74 Miles
Level of Difficulty: A Easy Walk
Car Park: The Dog & Pheasant CO5 8TP
Refreshments: The Dog & Pheasant
I had to go out to him and wait for the tide to go down before I could tow him off the causeway. We had company this time on our walk Sandra and Aaron came with us which was enjoyable having someone else to talk to apart from Christine.
The walk starts from the Dog and Gun goes past a pine wood along a sea wall path with views over the Pyefleet Channel which was once famous for oysters and to the east you can see Brightlingsea. The walk continues along the sea wall where you have the beach on your left and a dyke on the right where we saw swans with their three signets. The walk then will take you across Cudmore Country Park where we have spent many Sundays and it is a ideal place to fly a kite. When we had finished the walk we had lunch in the pubs garden which went down really well.
