Little Waltham is a lovely spot to visit and explore on foot , especially since they have bypassed the village which was built in the 15th century, and many of the farms and cottages are from the 16th century.
Details of Walk
Date of Walk: 07/08/2011
Distance: 3.51 Miles
Level of Difficulty: A Fairly Easy Walk
Car Park: Village Hall CM3 3LN
Refreshments: The White Hart
The Nave in the Church is from Norman times and the spacious timber porch is of Tudor origin. We parked in the village car park and house next door to the entrance was selling plants and we could not resist to buy a couple, we then headed into the main village and along the main street and over the river Chelmer which we you end up crossing twice, we then headed out of the village and past the windmill which used to be a restaurant. It was one of those days when we had a few showers on and off but not enough to spoil the walk.
The walk us near to Broomfield hospital which we could see from across a field. Croxton Mill has now been turned into offices now but has not changed the look and it's worth standing on the small bridge and looking up river and seeing the river at its best. Further along the walk we crossed a concrete bridge which had a distinct arch and along the bank there was a tree overhanging the river that would of made a good swing if it could take our wait . We finished our walk by going up to the church which was where Rebbeca got christened that was when Diana and Adrian lived in Lt Waltham. Finally there was this lovely front garden not very big and close to the road and it was just jam packed with flowers hanging in baskets or pots.
