Stock Walk

Stock is a pretty village with the main road from Chelmsford to Basildon running through it as soon as you start the walk you are in countryside and you would not believe you were so near the busy road.

We start at The Hoop then walk through the main village turning left with the Bear Pub on the corner and a bronze bear statue outside. You go through the graveyard of the church with its white wooden tower. We went along the the side of the golf course and a golfer had lost his ball in the rough and Christine came to the rescue and found the ball for him. We went past a house with a lady gardening and she had some pink poppy's which we have in our garden and started talking to her, they said they moved here for the peace and quiet as there was not a house nearby and surrounded with fields and the wood.

When we had completed the walk we decided to go to West Hanningfield reservoir cafe which is on the banks of the reservoir for lunch. It is a pleasant place to have lunch with a lot of birds to watch especially geese which you can feed. The reservoir started to be built in 1951 and took five years to be built it covers the ancient hamlet of Peasdown in the Sandon valley.
