Details of Walk
Date of Walk: 04/05/2015
Distance: 4.89 Miles
Level of Difficulty: A Easy Walk
Car Park: Cherry Chase (Roadside Parking) CM6 2JF
Refreshments: Tea rooms at the Jam Factory
The walk started of in Cherry chase. Legends have it that smugglers brought contraband from the creeks up the hillside road and hid them in the windmill. The walk takes you by the orchards and we were not there at the right time but it must be a good time to go when the blossom is on the trees.
We had some good views looking over to the Blackwater estuary and later on you get to the disused railway line that run from Kelvedon to Tollesbury which was used by the factory alot to transport their goods. It is a shame all these branch lines have closed down and I expect there are some lines the railway companies wish were still open like the one from Braintree through to Bishops Stortford which would have been really busy with the airport nearby. The Tearoom at the jam factory is well worth going to especially after the walk for a good old afternoon tea.
