There is another one out we would like to get called Tea Room Walks, mind you we were given two books for Christmas one called Walks in Suffolk and the other one Walks in Hertfordshire so if we get the Tea room book and these two we should have plenty to be getting on with.

Well that's enough of that let's get on with this walk and what a lovely day we had to be walking along the side of the river Colne as the photos will show it was lovely and it was in the middle of November. The High street dates back 300 years and over time it has had shipbuilding and farming of oysters were the main industries. A lot of the church has been rebuilt after being damaged in the 1884 earthquake that caused damage in may parts of Essex. When you have got down to the riverfront you walk along past what remains off the dry dock and then you go past the new Colne Barrier. The walk takes you under the old line  of the gravel works rigging which used to bring the gravel from the quarry across some fields down to the landing stage which is a metal construction and is quite beautiful in a funny sort of way but it has not been in use for many years. A little way further you come to Alresford Creek then its uphill to the entrance of the Gravel Pits and you follow along side the road which the lorries use. From the higher few you can see right over the Valley and down on to Wivenhoe. At the end of the walk we had lunch outside at the Rose and Crown on the quay and we had Baguettes and sitting there in the sun looking over the Colne river was so relaxing.
