Mistley is a large village in the Tendring district and the parish consists of Mistley and New Mistley, both lying beside the Stour Estuary, with Suffolk on the other side and not far from Manningtree. They are joined via a tree-lined walk along the river which is oddly called The Walls where you have spectacular views across the estuary and the swans, who live and breed here. The walk is a short one and this was ideal for the day as we had to slip to a couple of shops beforehand.

We started the walk from the village hall which has football and rugby pitches around it. It looked like they had just finished playing a game of rugby and as usual after a game they were having a few beers. We had walked down the left hand side boundary to get to the entrance to the wood where we turned right and walked into the wood where the oak trees were really old and big. When got to two paths both leading to a kissing gate we could not work out which one to take, we took the one to the left and walked up a hill all the time doubting whether we were right or not.
Well we reached the top of the hill and double checked the map and we were right we had walked up Furze hill and we should have carried straight on. So retracing our footsteps we entered a field with cows in it, we put the leads on the dogs as Honey would be all right but it is Rudy who is the inquisitive one and would probably go right up to the cows.
